APA Quality and Safety Improvement Scholars Program

The mission of the APA Quality and Safety Scholars Program is to assist pediatric faculty and advanced practice providers in developing themselves as productive, advancing and fulfilled faculty members in the area of quality and safety improvement science.

This program is offered to members of the Academic Pediatric Association who wish to earn a Certificate of Excellence in Quality and Safety Improvement Science. The curriculum will include yearly participation in the Quality Improvement Science pre- course, additional scheduled sessions for the group at PAS, periodic didactic webinars (approximately, 4/year), ongoing collaborative learning, and completion of a mentored improvement project.

Intersession activities: Between PAS meetings, scholars communicate via webinars/didactic sessions, digital/virtual communications and the program website. Ensuring extensive and supportive networking amongst scholars is a high priority for the program.

Mentored projects: The experiential component of the program is a mentored, scholarly project. Scholars will be matched with a national expert in the field of quality and safety who will serve as an advisor during their three years in the program. Scholars also must identify a local mentor from their own institution to approve and guide their project.

Presentations: During the course of the program, scholars will be expected to evaluate the quality improvement literature and present synopses of projects with critical analysis as part of their learning. A final presentation of the mentored project will also be expected.

Scholars are expected to complete the full curriculum, including projects, over 3 years.
